Received some new trim tabs the other day.. Much prettier than the old 280s!
I think I found a good place for them...
Hopefully I won't need them much.

When these hulls are at speed it rides on the first strake where the new tabs are, the chine to the first strake is out of the water.
If they were mounted like factory (parallel to hull) it would take a lot of down angle to touch the water, then they would be pushing at a side/down angle which could cause a negative effect. Imagine the boat riding high in the water with it rocking side to side, the factory parallel position of the tabs if they were down, at any angle, would push one side up and rock it to the other and just keep repeating 'chine walking'.
Also there are issues with catching waves on the corner when you are landing tail first...

There are a lot of theory's/arguments on this subject but I feel this will accomplish what I intend to use them for.
Hopefully, I don't need to use them much.
BTW, The mounting style I used is referred to 'horizontal'.

The pic is a different boat but I will use it as an example.

Notice how high the boat is riding, even at a slower speed...
I had the factory 280 K-planes mounted in the 'normal' parallel location. I needed to run the port tab down to level the boat out as the engine/prop was twisting stb. side up.
I needed a considerable down angle to touch the water enough get the boat to react and level out. If I was to become airborne this caused the boat to shift the stb. side upon landing...

The horizontal mounting position I used and the location will allow me to use minimal tab down angle if I need to level the boat since it will be at the true waterline when the boat is at speed. Which will also help when airborne..

Most pleasure boats the tab location is not an issue, but if you plan to run 80 to 100, (or more) in a fairly small boat, it becomes an issue.

Been busy with last minute winterizing and other projects. (The 26 Spyder is also back in the shop for a major transformation )

As for the Squadron I am waiting on my engine plates to get back from the machine shop with their mods.
I did finally receive a set of custom CMI Headers!
2 3/8 primaries and 5" collectors will let the 607 breath a little better than what was on it in the shootout.
I'll get some more updates as soon as they are available.

    Back on the Squadron...

I got the engine back in the bilge for some motor mount fabbing..
Thanks to Jim at Ozark Speed & Marine my rear plate is the same width as my front plate. It had to be extended about 5 inches on each side...
I had some new aluminum angle cut for the mounts but the old factory Squadron mounts worked out better, with a little modding of course..
After making sure all is squared, centered and leveled its time to start drilling...

Some header test fitting to make sure all clears...

    More drilling and bolting...

Next we get to pull it all out and make the mounts look pretty...

Working on the bilge floor pieces today.

A couple layers of biax, 1/2 inch piece of Nida-Core and another layer of biax.
All laid out on glass to ensure it is flat and smooth on the outside..

A little weight in top while it sets to push out any excess (one of these days I will have my vacuum bagging table set up)...

We have one of the bilge floor pieces completed, a little trimming and then it gets installed.
I should have the other floor piece built tomorrow...

Not much lately, it got warm out and customers started calling!

I have also been working on getting my other beater project out of my fiberglass bay so I can get the Squadron in there and start getting messy...

I'll keep you up to date...

    Nice

Had one from 2000 - 2004 it was an 87 with a 454 Alpha 1 drive - Wish I still had that boat, it was easier on gas than my twin 572 EFIs
