    MercTrans & TR Drive Rebuilder??? Recommendations?

    Greetings:

    We're "refreshing" the driveline in a 1974 Seamaster houseboat.

    It's a Mercruiser driveline that uses a 302 ford small block w/

    * MercTrans transmission (Since it's a '74 I don't believe it is a Borg-Warner "velvet" drive)
    * Mercruiser TR outdrive

    It appears, from water in the transmission, that the transmission cooler broke.
    While we have the boat on stands it makes sense to go through the outdrive also.

    I'd like to fond a reputable shop that can rebuild the transmission & outdrive.

    The boat is located near Branson MO, however, it would be no problem to deliver to LOTO, Branson, or the St.Louis area.

    Any and all recommendations / advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    He doesn't do TRS drives so I doubt he'd work on an even older TR drive.
    Parts for them are also pretty limited.

    Looks like the trans will take a trip out west via big brown.
    It hard to believe the TR drives have faded so far away. From what I can tell failure of both the Trans and drive is (fresh) water infiltration.

    It appears the trans fluid cooler on the MercTrans wasn't winterized correctly and broke.
    The lower unit case has electrolysis at the prop shaft seal that allowed water in. I hope the TR case can be bored and sleeved for seal replacement.

    Still open to advise, much appreciated.

    I had issues even asking questions to shops in the lake area about TRS or transmissions. Seems to be greek to most of em. Call Ocean Performance in NJ and Between the Bridges Marina in CT, their guys helped me with anything I wanted to ask when I redid my transom assemblies and a few other things. All I got around here was "we don't work on those" and "you can't get parts for them" which is total BS. As for the transmissions, this guy in STL here does em but not sure he does the MercTrans. Worth a shot:
