    Otters on our dock

Caught this band of merry otters on our dock cam last night. They seemed very inquisitive. Looks like 3 of them.

I have a few regularly visit our dock. For some reason they like to poop on the carpet we have put on the back of the wells to protect the boats. Other than that we haven't experienced any damage. Not sure if there is any thing one can do or need to do anything.

I wonder if their population is increasing or if it's just the increase in cameras bringing attention to them lately?

Since we got the cameras it's incredible how much is going on there that we weren't aware of. Strangers on the dock is the most concerning. We saw one guy stealing some stuff from the neighbor and sent the neighbor down there to take care of business ( We were away at work). I'm waiting to see another thief on the dock so I can release our German Shepherd. He's a biter with 5 bites to his credit already, and some even deserved it!

We have them on the dock for various views. The 2 way speaker on them is not very loud but loud enough at night to chase neighborhood cats off the boat.

Anyone know of a way to deter otters? They are crapping on my dock and staining the concrete. May have to trap them if there's no other way to get rid of them.

Call the Missouri Department of Conservation (might be able to do it online as well). They sent me a brochure on Otters, I think there is a season and a rule if they are doing damage you can remove them. However, I am not sure if pooping on the dock is considered enough damage.

Ok, I will add that to the list of reasons the wife will avoid the water.

Piranha, alligators, flesh-eating bacteria, eboli, meningitis, and now..
    HUGE man-eating otters!!

j/k.. I did not know there was an otter population here at the lake.

Maybe like reaching in on a cornered raccoon. They get nasty.
