I don't gamble so I guess it doesn't bother me either way.

I'm not a gambler either but live in a town with one. I'm not a fan of it being on the lake. The lower class think they are going to hit it big but they just lose more! The lights dont stay on for free!!!

Not really a fan of one coming to LOTO. I think it will hurt a lot of local businesses.

The river, if this is accurate:

The proposed constitutional amendment would add the Osage River downstream from the point where the Bagnell Dam forms the Lake of the Ozarks to where it joins with the Missouri River a little east of Jefferson City.

The ones in rural areas I've been in are occupied by a few zombies playing the same games they could play on their couches at home on their phones. It is so odd to me that building one is a good investment.

Years ago (87-92) we lived in Laughlin,NV area. Barb helped open Harrahs Laughlin.

I can tell you flat out what people perceive is right and wrong and they will balance each other out. The real world is it is like any business that comes to town. There is those that don't want it in their back yard. Those that think it will bring every low life in the region. And then there is those that think everyone will get rich off of it.

But again it is like any new bigger employer. It will bring Jobs, It will make the area prosper, It will create the need for more infrastructure and it will bring the self perceived high rollers, last but not least, it will bring more people in just in numbers, that is good and bad...

I have noticed in the last 30 years since we were involved in it, it has become much more common and does not have the flair it once had. But overall it is good for an area financially. The increase well out weighs the negative.

I personally am WAY more worried about the legalization of pot....

But as far as casino? It is over all: Better than nothing. And nothing, seems to be what many seem to want for the area. Every time someones comes up with an idea to make the area grow and prosper, people come out against it. Yet.... People keep saying we need to expand to keep year round jobs, growth etc.

I personally would like to hear idea to make the area grow, not just keep hearing why they don't want _____ to be here. JMHO

Not sure why you are worried about pot. I never smoked it and have no interest in it. I have enough bad legal habits. I feel it should be legal. Also I am not a gambler except for the lottery tickets here and there. My concern is it appears casinos always promise all the tax dollars they never seem to happen.

I just don't believe in the pot revolution. I just don't understand why? But I don't drink, do drugs etc. Never have, never will. And with the hundreds of threads I have responded to over the years about that, you should not be surprised.

Tax $$$. Yes... It is paid, VERY closely regulated and will be put back into the local economy. The Money is there. (Or at least coming in) The real question who is handling it and how are they spending it in the communities?

Then we realize it is the politicians...

The only thing I have seen casinos hurt small towns is they pay and employ many low paid people at more pay than what the local small employers use to pay. I thought the first proposal was ossge river then last committee added from bagnell dam to missouri river

Most of our property tax goes to schools. Then they bring in casinos and say tax’s help schools. But the school budgets never increase and our property taxes keep going up. It’s all BS!

I understand but in our area (LOTO) Schools are not an issue. Nor Realestate taxes for that matter. So for us, an increase in tax revenues form outside personal taxes (sales, lodging, etc) can go to Infrastructure and job growth in the area.

LOTO is an odd place and from what I have seen since we moved here full time is many that have transplanted bring their background(s) from other area's. This is a good thing and bad.

Positives: Work ethic-good, Work experience and financial successes, good.

Stepping stones: Preconceived notion of how things should work, Interesting... Understanding a tourist area requires tourist money to succeed. Working on that.

The down side so far: Thinking that growth to a place they came to retire or slow down, not understanding it is a double edged sword. Growth requires people, people come but still need the infrastructure to move forward yet keeping the cost of living reasonable?

That is where we are currently and why we need to find ideas to keep our area moving forward.

As I stated above, I have lived in a Gaming area... It is no different than having a large manufacturing facility. But if one doesn't like the "moral" side of gaming? That can be an issue.

We are all open for suggestions on other workable ideas. Just remember, our area is tourist based so I am not saying it has to stay in that realm, just that it needs to somehow be implemented into the idea.

I think a casino would be a good start to the year round businesses. It would give an opportunity for some people to come down during the off season to visit, maybe helping with the winter slow down at the lake.
    Whats next?

Just look at some of the high schools. They are starting to look like Universities.
